Talented surveyors from across the UK are in the running for the RICS Matrics Surveyor Awards 2024, having been shortlisted for demonstrating excellence early in their careers.

The RICS Matrics Surveyor Awards, formerly Young Surveyor of the Year Awards, are back for the 11th year to showcase the exceptional talent within the surveying profession and celebrate the innovation and hard work of emerging professionals in the surveying industry.

This year RICS added the Sustainability Champion of the Year category to honour an individual with extraordinary commitment and dedication to integrating environmental sustainability principles into every aspect of surveying, serving as a beacon of inspiration for others in the industry.

The 10 category awards are open to students, apprentices, candidates and members who have been qualified up to 10 years and showcase the successes of surveyors from various backgrounds, the awards provide visible and relatable role models for aspiring professionals.

The ultimate accolade of ‘RICS Matrics Surveyor of the Year’ title is awarded to the category winner who has shown extraordinary success in their career, but also demonstrates an unwavering commitment to inspire and support future talent, advancing the industry and wider surveying profession.

Last year, Belfast-based surveying professional Carolyn Brady, a building surveyor and regional lead partner for global quantity surveyor and construction consultancy firm Rider Levett Bucknall, won the Building Surveyor/Control Surveyor of the Year award, in addition to securing the overall RICS Matrics Surveyor of the Year title in the face of stiff competition from other category winners from around the UK.

Commenting on the shortlist, Neil A’Bear FRICS, Matrics UK chair, said: “This year’s shortlist is testament to the unwavering dedication of our rising stars that continue to advocate for the positive work that the industry brings. Every individual is rising to the demands of the profession and delivering on exemplary projects, which are having a lasting impact on communities, the environment, and the economy.

“Many entrants into this year’s Matrics Awards are actively involved in delivering and leading on highly innovative initiatives and schemes, and we are delighted to be celebrating our sustainability champions with a new category this year too. RICS is proud to be championing and inspiring the next generation of surveyors with these awards, and I wish everyone the best of luck in the grand final later this year.”

The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on 15th November at the Midland Hotel, Manchester.
