Estate agent turned MP, Kevin Hollinrake, is expected to announce that he is running to be Tory leader this week.
Hollinrake, who started Hunters Estate Agents in 1992, co-founding the business with John Waterhouse, was made a minister in October 2022 under Rishi Sunak’s regime, but he has never served in the cabinet. Earlier this month, he was appointed shadow secretary of state for business and trade.
Hollinrake, who campaigned for justice for the victims of the Post Office scandal, is one of about seven or eight Tory MPs poised to enter the battle to replace Rishi Sunak as leader of the party – with the winner set to be crowned towards the end of the year.
There are just 121 Conservative MPs left after the recent general election defeat.
Others also expected to run for the Tory leadership are Kemi Badenoch, Tom Tugendhat, Priti Patel, Robert Jenrick, Victoria Atkins and Mel Stride.
